You need to understand laws of the game-Kalichero tells Mafco Coach Fulaye

By Erik Chiputula:

The National Referees Committee General Secretary, Chris Kalichero has asked local coaches to trade carefully and understand football laws to avoid unnecessary criticisms to the officiating panel once they lose their games.

The remarks comes following MAFCO FC coach Yohane Fulaye’s remarks against referees after his team suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Nyasa Big Bullets in Airtel Top 8 quarter final second leg.

Nyasa Big Bullets came from a goal down to beat the Salima based soldiers and claimed a semifinal place with a 5-2 goal aggregate after another 3-1 victory three weeks ago.

In a post-match interview, Fulaye told reporters that Bullets were favored to win the game.

“We played very well, we deserved the victory but the referee aided Bullets. They scored an offside goal and they were also awarded a dubious penalty,” he claimed

However, Kalichero said the remarks were baseless and they were used as a scapegoat after his team’s defeat.

Kalichero has called upon team officials who do not understand football laws to consult his association saying they are ready to help any time.

“This tendency has been there for so long, whenever a team loses they point fingers at the officiating panel. After MAFCO Vs Nyasa Big Bullets last Sunday we heard MAFCO coach doing the same even though highlight of the game proved otherwise.

“Such remarks can incite violence to the disadvantage of the whole competition. It is also an offense to talk like that, and although we have been quiet for some time, we are planning to implement sanctions against the act” said Kalichero

Soccer Analyst Charles Nyirenda has asked Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to start punishing officials who contravenes laws of the game, particularly towards referees.

“You have to understand that very few people are open with themselves to admit that they haven’t been up to the task and the easy escape route is the ref. It’s the duty of FAM to end this by starting punishing such officials” he said
