15 October every year is Mother’s Day in Malawi.
This is a day mothers take time off their busy schedule to celebrate their motherhood.
This year, while the majority of women across the country’s Major cities were flocking to the lake to enjoy the beautiful breeze on the shores of Lake Malawi, women members of the Winners Chapel thought of doing something totally different.
With support from the Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) and the family of Honorary Consul of Malaysia to Malawi, Ahmed Sunka, the women trading under the banner ‘ Winning women’ mobilized resources and donated assorted grocery items and second hand clothes to over 100 poor mothers at Mitundu in the outskirts of Lilongwe city.
Speaking after making the donation, Deaconess Blessings Abraham said they thought it wise to donate to the poor women to show them appreciation for the role they are playing as mothers.
“This is a day we celebrate mothers and while our fellow mothers are out there celebrating we decided to come here and donate these items to these women so that they should also feel appreciated on this special day,” said Deaconess Abrahams.
And on her part Millia Jeke who is one of the beneficiaries was all smiles.
“I am loss of words as I never expected such a gesture on this day and I thank God for this,” said Jeke.
The donated items were valued at over K2 million.
