Current champions of the Raiply national volleyball tournament, Moyale Barracks, have vowed to defend the championship this year at a tournament expected to take place at Katoto Secondary school sports complex in Mzuzu.
The tournament which is sponsored by Raiply to the tune of 5 million is set to take place from 11 to 14 November this year where 10 men teams and 10 women teams will tussle is out.
Moyale Barracks volleyball are the current champions of the mens category whilst Wolves volleyball team formerly Blue Eagles are the champions of the ladies category.
Moyale Barracks Volleyball team coach Aubrey Mpeyama said his team is gunning to defend the championship and use it as part of its preparation for thr Zone VI games that the team wants to participate.
Mpeyama said teams to participate in this year’s tournament should expect to get a good run from Moyale Barracks.
“As a team we are trying our level best to ensure that this year we should come up with new strategic plans in order to defend the Raiply volleyball tournament championship without much problems. Our target is to make sure that we display good team play as before in order to achieve our goal. As a club we are planning to participate in the upcoming Zone VI games so we will use this tournament to prepare ourselves.” he said.
The Volleyball Association of Malawi announced this year’s Raiply National Volleyball Tournament a week ago where the body said the central and southern region volleyball leagues will be represented by 3 teams each in every category whilst the northern region which is the host will usher in 4 teams from each category.
VAM General Secretary Daniel Mwakasoko said currently registration of teams is open until 1 November.
“This year we have been sponsored by Raiply again to the tune of MK5 million. For qualified teams to take part in the tournament they will part ways with MK20,000 each.” said Mwakasoko.
