Agri-zone International company (AZIT) Chief Executive Officer Matias Bonongwe has disclosed that Minister of Youth and Sports Ulemu Msungama interfered with Ekwendeni Hammers sponsorship deal.
In an Interview with The Atlas Malawi, Bonongwe said in his efforts to save Be Forward Wanderers from current financial woes, Msungama wanted AZIT to sponsor the Lali Lubani outfit.
“When the minister heard the rumours that AZIT is planning to partner with Ekwendeni, he called for a meeting saying we should sponsor Wanderers instead,” said Bonongwe.
Meanwhile, Bonongwe has refuted claims that he has set aside K120 million to be disbursed to needy teams including Wanderers.
The local media reported that Bonongwe wants to offer support six needy teams at K20 million each apart from K220 million deal for Ekwendeni Hammers.
Some of the teams incled Mighty Tigers, Mzuzu Worriors, Chitipa United, TN Stars and Ntopwa FC.
