Mchinji District Council has approved a budget to the tune of K9 billion for the 2021-2022 financial- year which the Office of the Director of Finance in the district presented during a full council meeting on Monday.
The draft budget shows that among other sectors and categories, K7 billion will go to Management and Administration, Education has been allocated K300 million, K255 million has gone to Health.
Water Structures Fund has been allocated K72 million while K23 million has gone to Disaster Management.
Mchinji District Chairperson, Yona Mtanga said they used the District Development Plan (DDP) when formulating the budget as it contains all the development needs of the district.
The council chairperson added that the budget passed include both locally generated revenue and funds from the government.
“We used the DDP when coming up with the budget. You know it is like the backbone of our development activities,” said Mtanga.
Mchinji Acting District Commissioner, Raymond Nkhoma, commended the house for passing the budget without much argument.
Nkhoma said the council has plans to enhance local revenue with the aim of improving public service delivery.
“We have several plans that will help the council to raise much revenue so that we improve service delivery,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament, Ward Councilors, Chiefs and Government Officers.
Mchinji District has projected to locally collect revenue amounting to K163 903 150 in the 2021/2022 financial year.
