The Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) has extended the deadline for registration of candidates for the 2021 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE), Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.
According to a press statement signed by MANEB acting Executive Director Professor Dorothy Nampota, deadline for the examinations has been further extended to April 16, 2021 to give an opportunity to MSCE candidates who did not perform well in the just released 2020 examination results and intend to register and sit for the 2021 examinations.
The 2020 MSCE examination results which were released last week Thursday, showed that 81, 017 candidates out of 138 310 have failed, representing a 41.42 percent pass rate.
Minister of education Agnes Nyalonje earlier described the results as “the worst in the past decade”.
Candidates took a fresh examination in January this year following cancellation of the initial one last October due to massive leakage of some examination papers.
In the past four years the results stood at 58.32 percent in 2016, 61 percent in 2017, 63.23 pass rate registered in 2018 and 50.42 percent pass rate recorded in the 2019.
