Mandala promises improved Volleyball standards

Newly elected Central Region Volleyball League Chairperson Sunganani Mandala has said as a new committee that has been entrusted to run the volleyball game in the central region, they look forward to improving the quality of volleyball by having more games in order to gain more experience and learn from others.

Mandala was responding to The Atlas Malawi on his election as chairperson of the Central Region Volleyball League committee during an online Elective Annual General Meeting that took place over the weekend.

Sunganani Mandala was elected Chairperson of the Central Region Volleyball League beating Shupikai Nyirenda.

Mandala amassed 30 votes representing 63% of the 48 voters while Nyirenda got 18 votes representing 38% of the votes.

He says at the moment the new committee will meet to assess where to start from as they take over from the previous committee.

“We come in as a committee to try to improve the volleyball game in the central region and to do this we have to lobby in more sponsors as resources are always scarce. We intend to do more tournaments that include more cup games, construct additional courts in some strategic locations, introduce programs that will bring the game to the grassroots i.e. primary schools and other communities, buy balls and other game equipment.

We also feel the need to train a good number of people to acquire coaching knowledge and skills”, Mandala said.

At the moment, the Central Region Volleyball League is sponsored by 21st Century Systems Limited to the tune of MK6, 122, 000 per year for a period of 3 years.

Mandala takes over from Robert White who did not seek re election.

The online EAGM did not vote in the other positions in the committee as all those that showed interest to the positions went unopposed.
