Group organises Blantyre—Lilongwe walk for tourism

By Chancy Namadzunda:

Paulendo Adventures has organised a walk from Blantyre to Lilongwe to raise funds for the improvement of the tourism sector in the country.

According to the group’s Team Leader Yangairo Yangairo, a team of 10 people will start off from November 21 and is expected to arrive in Lilongwe on November 30, 2020.

“The walk seeks to raise funds that will be invested in the training and eventual certification of 100 tour guides across the country. By doing this, we are improving our tourism product from within.

“Those interested in being one of the 10 intercity walkers are required to either get sponsored or make a contribution of K150,000 towards the cause. This contribution will cover logistics for the walkers and any excess will be added to the donations pot,” said Yangairo.

He said four walkers have already registered with six slots still open to be filled by those who are passionate about the cause

“Considering that not everyone may be able to walk all the way from Blantyre to Lilongwe, we welcome individuals to join the walk by doing a portion of the distance such as from Blantyre to Lunzu or Zalewa.

“In regards to the same, individuals interested to walk from Blantyre to Lunzu which is around 18 kilometres, will need to make a contribution or find sponsorship of at least k10,000. This will cover bottles of water, first aid, a branded t-shirt and transportation back to Blantyre CBD,” he said.

For those who would like to support the cause in Lilongwe by welcoming the 10 walkers at Bunda Roundabout, Yangairo said they will also be required to make a contribution or find sponsorship of at least K10,000 and that the arrangement will be the same as that of the Blantyre team

“All those who would like to support the initiative both in cash and kind are feel free to do so, every little amount counts,” he said.

He said contributions can be sent through National Bank, Paulendo Adventures, Account Number 1006755417, Top Mandala Branch or TNM Mpamba 0881034149 and Airtel Money 0999650826.

Yangairo said proof of payment should be sent to Innocent Kaliati on 0996567388.
