Govt drags teachers to work, obtains injunction against strike

Two days after teachers resumed their strike over Covid-19 risk allowances, government has obtained a court injunction stopping the Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) from continuing with the stay away.

TUM announced a fresh strike after the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 made a U-turn on its pledge to pay teachers three months risk allowances.

Confirming the development, TUM President Willy Malimba said the teachers welfare body has been served with the injunction.

He said the injunction was served soon after the meeting between governent officials and TUM.
