Former Mighty Be Forward Wanderers midfielder, who was also known as a ‘freekick specialist’ Leonard ‘Lenzo’ Malunga has passed on.
According to his elder brother Yona, the deceased died at his home in Machinjiri Township, Blantyre, Tuesday night.
Yona, who is also a well-known Wanderers supporter having held various top position in the supporters committee, said his brother died after collapsing at home.
He however said the cause of death will be known later after medical post mortem.
Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) said the funeral programme will be communicated later.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former Flames and Be Foward Wanderers midfielder Leonard ‘Lenzo’ Malunga who died on Tuesday evening, January 19, 2021 at his home in Machinjiri, Blantyre.
“The FAM Executive Committee conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Malunga family. We pray that GOD gives them fortitude at this moment of their extreme grief and pain,” reads part of the statement posted on it’s official Facebook page.

“Lenzo was a good Player and I will always remember him because he was a freekick Specialist, he formed a good combination with players like the late Frank Mtawali, Phililip Madinga, Hannock Ng’oma, Gift Zakazaka,Thom Milanzi and ofcourse the current Fam President Walter Nyamilandu who also played with him together with the current Wanderers Coaches Bob and Albert Mpinganjira,” he said.
