Elia Kananji snubs new role at Civo

By Erik Chiputula:

Civo Service United Assistant Coach Elia Kananji has rejected management’s move to have him demoted to the youth side where he is supposed to be the head coach.

The move, According to reputable sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, is to create space for Oscar Kaunda who has been earmarked for the senior team’s assistant coach position.

The Atlas Malawi understands that the Servants have already written a letter to Kananji notifying about the changes.

However, while confirming the development, Kananji said he will not accept the deal because doing so will be going against a contract he signed with Civo Service United.

Instead, the former Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers head coach said he has asked Civo Service United to terminate his contract or fire him if they are not interested in his services.

“I signed a contract for the senior team not youth side so I won’t accept any new role other than what I signed for. If they are not interested in me let them terminate our agreement or fire me so that I should be free to look for other opportunities,” said Kananji

Disagreement between Civo Service United and Elia Kananji erupted two months ago when the executive committee dismissed him with the head coach Franko Ndawa due to what they called “poor performance of the club”.

A week later the Ndawa was reinstated while Kananji has been out of the club until today.

There was no immediate reaction from Civo Service United .

Kananji is a very good coach and civo are making a huge error by trying to push him out of the door. I don’t think Oscar is a better tactician than Elia.
