Business mogul Dr Thom Mpinganjira has been found with a case to answer by High Court Judge Dorothy DeGabrielle.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Mpinganjira after Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda complained to the bureau that someone wanted to bridge the five judges who heard the presidential election case as a constitutional referral.
The former banker, is answering charges related to attempting to induce High Court Judges Mike Tembo and Healey Potani to exercise their functions corruptly by accepting K100 million for that purpose, according to ACB.
He is being accused of offering an advantage to a public officer, attempting to induce a public officer to perform his or her functions corruptly inorder for the five judges to rule in favour of Former President Peter Mutharika, attempting to induce a public Officer to abuse his office and offering an advantage to a public officer.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
In her ruling, DeGabrielle said the evidence tendered by the State has established a premafacial case against Mpinganjira and he should enter defense.
She however said the suspect is free to parade witness or choose to remain silent.
Mpinganjira’s lawyer Patrice Nkhono told the court that he will discuss the ruling with his client first before deciding whether to parade witnesses or not.
The case has been adjourned to 11 May, 2021.
