Chisale failed JCE exams-witness

Embattled former President Peter Mutharika’s bodyguard Paulos Norman Chisale failed Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations, according to Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) suspended Executive Director Gerald Chiunda.

Chiunda, who is the third witness in a case which Chisale is being accused of using a stolen JC certificate to be enlisted in the Malawi Defence Force (MDF).

He told the court that MANEB is in possession of two certificates one for Pithias Hiwa and another for Paulos Norman Chisale.

Chisale, a former soldier, claims that he used his certificate he obtained in 1995 to enlist in the MDF.

However, the witness said the 1995 JCE results show that Hiwa earned his certificate with a pass while Chisale failed the exams.

Some of the grades he got were Bible Knowledge (F), English (F), Geography (F) and Chichewa (D)

Earlier on, a second witness Major General Mhone said Chisale was recruited after he presented his JCE certificate with the name of Pythias Hiwa Chisale.

However, he said soon after the the investigations into the matter started, it was found that the accused details in the MDF system were altered.

Mhone said the alterations were unauthorised.

The state will further parade three more witnesses.
