The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) has demanded for the firing of Minister of Youth and Sports Ulemu Msungama for lying to the nation on the construction of a MK9.4 billion Swimming Pool.
Government through ministry of Youth and Sports revealed that they will construct a world class sports complex at Liolongwe Institute for Sports in Lilongwe.
CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa said the country is facing alot of challenges in different sectors which need much attention than constructing a sports facility.
Namiwa also accused Nsungama of misleading President Lazarus Chakwera.
“CDEDI would like to remind President Chakwera that Malawi is currently faced with a number of challenges in the minstry of Healthy, Educaction and Econiomic sector. It is therefore unimaginable for the country to spend such amounts on a luxurious sports complex”.
“It is against this back ground that CDEDI believes the current minster of Youth and Sports, Msungama is giving Chakwera wrong advice. Malawi does not need a world class swimming pool as Msungama wants both the president and the voters to believe”.
“Malawi Youths need the one million jobs hence our call for the release of the new awaited cabinat so so that thers someone to champion the creation of one million jobs”.
The letter further adviced the Government to fucus much on constructing good education facilities saying malawi youths needs adequate spaces in primary and secondary schools as well as in its colleges.
The organisation has warned should government to withdraw its decision failing which CDEDI will mobilize the youth to protest.
