All is set for the Mingle ‘John Vuli Gate’ Party slated for Friday, December 18 at Mingle Complex in Lilongwe.
John Vuli Gate is the breakout single from house duo Mapara A Jazz featuring vocalists Ntoshi Gazi and Colano, which is speculated to be inspired by a memorable scene from Tsotsi.
In an Interview with The Atlas Malawi, the Complex Manager Gregory Maulana disclosed that Ntoshi Gazi and Colano are expected to jet into the country Friday morning, taking the hype and expectations on a higher tempo.
Maulana said the show signifies the climax of entertainment at the Complex coupled with the festive season.
“We looked at the vibes that we normally play at this Complex, so with the local artists who will also perform we thought it wise that we bring him so that we should have a variety. He is more popular here and has a big following.
“As a festive season, we are going to give our fans maximum entertainment. We have had overwhelmed response from our patrons and we promise that they will have the best experience they have never had before,” he said adding that advance tickets are available at Mingle Complex at K5000 while for those paying at the door will pay K10000 each.
Local artists expected to perform are Dan Lu, Temwa, Avocado, DJ Nathan and Bubblegum.
The John Vuli Gate trend was sparked when a group of girls celebrating their friend’s birthday at a garage and jamming to the song went viral. It went from a WhatsApp status to the worldwide web, being reacted to globally on YouTube, and it secured the girls gigs and brand endorsements.
The song was inspired by this moment from the Oscar-winning film ‘Tsotsi’:
The track has rocketed into Shazam’s Global Chart, has been adopted as a campaign slogan by the DA’s John Steenhuisen, has received props from the Scorpion Kings Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa – and on Sunday it gets a spin on the Idols SA stage!
